Keep good company

“The man who walks with wise men becomes wise himself”, King Solomon

The time you spend with someone is an investment. This investment will have an impact on both of you. This begs the following questions. How much time do you have? What is your time worth? Are you investing your time wisely?

Global average life expectancy per country ranges from 53 to 85 years where Central African Republic has the lowest and Hong Kong has the highest life expectancy. Canada’s life expectancy is 82 years, approximately 30,000 days. That is 720,000 hours of life. Take away 10 hours per day for sleep, toilet, shower, and other essentials. That leaves 420,000. If you are 41 years old, you have 210,000 hours left. How will you spend your remaining time?

If your investment is spending time with active people, you will naturally pick up their habits. You will start to exercise more and improve your health. If you spend your time with smokers, you will pick up bad habits and destroy your health with first hand and/or second hand smoke. The most awful thing I see about smoking is the negativity, and complaining I witness at the back of an office, store, or any other place of business. Negativity is a barrier to your mental progress. Stay away from whiners and complainers. They have nothing to offer you. Such people don’t offer any solutions to anyone.

If you spend your time with expert investors, you will become a savvy investor. If you spend time with scientists, your scientific skills will improve. If you spend time with gamers, your gaming skills with improve. If you spend time with wise people, you will become wiser.

Figure out what you want to accomplish and what you want to become. Then find a group of people who are interested in that area and then associate yourself with them. That will be a good investment of your time. Your mental capacity will improve, even while you are enjoying a cup of coffee with them.

Increase your odds of success by keeping good company.
