Characteristics of High Performing Teams

In their book, Teams That Work, the authors Tom Champoux, Cliff Chrils, and George Myers identified six characteristics of high performing teams.

  1. High Level of Trust: This means the team members are open to share knowledge, skills, and experience.
  2. High Level of Respect: This means people are motivated to do their job to the best of their ability, which reduces problems their colleagues will have to deal with.
  3. Commitment to a clear and common purpose: Everyone is focused on the same goal.
  4. Willingness and ability to manage conflict: This means the team is able to ask difficult conversations, handle disagreements, and move forward.
  5. Focus on results: Teams focused on results produce the desired results.
  6. Alignment of authority and accountability: Everyone understands what they will be held accountable for.
