In their book, Teams That Work, the authors Tom Champoux, Cliff Chrils, and George Myers identified six characteristics of high performing teams.
- High Level of Trust: This means the team members are open to share knowledge, skills, and experience.
- High Level of Respect: This means people are motivated to do their job to the best of their ability, which reduces problems their colleagues will have to deal with.
- Commitment to a clear and common purpose: Everyone is focused on the same goal.
- Willingness and ability to manage conflict: This means the team is able to ask difficult conversations, handle disagreements, and move forward.
- Focus on results: Teams focused on results produce the desired results.
- Alignment of authority and accountability: Everyone understands what they will be held accountable for.
