How to improve self-confidence

Self-confidence grows with wins and declines with fails.

Where does self-confidence comes from? It is from small daily accomplishments that made you feel better. You fixed a problem. You submitted a great report. You help an old lady carry her groceries up a flight of stairs. You give up your seat to an elderly person. You took 30 minutes to exercise. You eat an apple instead of a sugary snack. Self-confidence comes from not neglecting the small daily disciplines.

When you earn the small wins in life, remind yourself that you are capable, you are competent, you are disciplined, and that you will do whatever it takes to go forward. Run a mile a day. Read a book. Take a course. Ask for help. If you know you will do whatever it takes, your self-confidence will rise.

Self-confidence comes from the ability to rise above the circumstance. When a negative circumstance causes everyone else to quit, keep going. That will give you enormous confidence in your ability to face the challenges against all odds and persevere.

What do most people do? They ignore their wins. They focus on their mistakes and failures for days, months, years, even decades. So one mistake, one setback, one failure keeps knocking down their self-confidence repeatedly, day after day, month after month, and year after year. This self-defeating behavior all but ensures that they can never reach their full potential.

Successful people build habits that help them accumulate wins. They post reminders of their accomplishments around them. The celebrate their wins. They focus on learning and improving themselves continuously. They don’t compare themselves to others. They compare themselves to the person they were yesterday and yesteryear. They only need to be a better version of who they were.

Focus on accumulating small wins and build your self-confidence.
